FWC YOUTH - Parents Update (February '10)

Parents,

Strap on your snow boats and break out the shovels! February is here, and the winter weather has come with it! I can’t believe all this snow that’s on the ground. Pastors Rick, Doug, and Chris are loving it, and can’t seem to understand what all the “bread and milk” fuss is about!

I hope while you’re snuggled up to the fire, you’ll take a chance to check out our once-a-month email we’ll be sending out to you as parents so you have a clue about what’s happening! We realize that some of the details don’t always make it home, so this is just another attempt to communicate with you, and to keep you informed.

SPECIAL SPEAKERS IN FEBRUARY

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd – AUSTIN CARTY
We’re excited to have WCA graduate Austin Carty to come speak to us this Wednesday night! Austin will be sharing about his new book, High Points and Lows, a collection of essays about his stumbling journey to adulthood and true faith. Parents are welcome to come and hear Austin.
*Barnes and Noble will be on site to sell copies of Austin’s book for anyone interested.
**Austin will also be speaking at WCA’s chapel service on Thursday morning.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10th – ZACH NESTOR
A graduate from our own group, Zach Nestor will be here for a live interview about his own faith journey over the past year and how a habit that he began at the age of 12 nearly destroyed his life. Zach will also be sharing about addiction, and how breaking habits is never easy. Zach will also discuss how overcoming it is a daily decision impacted constantly by the people you surround yourself with.

EVENTS
Remember, events are a great way for your student to connect to other students, and to our awesome Youth Staff! We have a few events coming up over the next few weeks that you should be aware of, and will hopefully encourage your teenager to be a part of! See the list below, with detailed information about each one.

FEBRUARY 5th – FIRST FRIDAY – PRAYER SERVICE FOR HAITI (Seniors Only)

Time: 7pm-8pm

DATES TO KEEP IN MIND AS YOU LOOK AHEAD…
March 16 – Quarterly Parents Meeting
*One of the things we’ll be discussing at this meeting will be “sexting,” a destructive force becoming wildly popular among teenagers with text messaging capabilities.
June 13-18 – Middle School Youth Camp
June 20-25 – High School Youth Camp
*Pricing and lineups to be announced.

OUR DISCIPLESHIP INITIATIVE
Please continue to encourage your teenager to be involved in our discipleship initiative. We are making every effort to reinforce the great urgency of developing a relationship with God’s Word. This goes against everything society places in front of our kids. Culture is fast – a relationship with the Word takes time. Culture is flippant and casual – time with the Word requires commitment and discipline. Please pray that God will continue to draw students to His Word, because we know that lives will be changed through it! For those of you that would like to follow along, and discuss these passages with your students (I highly encourage it!), I’ve attached a PDF of the reading schedule through February. For those of you with non-Chronological Bibles, the Scripture references are listed as well.

TXT UPDATES
Yeah, we try to be hip…and we recognize that people communicate on many different levels in our fast-paced society. Would you like to receive text message updates and reminders about what’s happening? Click here to sign up!

Remember, we’re here for you. Please continue to let us know how we can pray for you, and feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email anytime. I am always available to come alongside you for support in this awesome teenage world we live in!

Blessings,

Brian
